Zumtobel Group is following its change at the top with another important leadership appointment. Saurabh Pandhi became CEO of Tridonic effective 14 September 2026. The former head of Thorn Lighting succeeds Hugo Rohner, who has left the company after many years.

Pandhi is taking charge of a strategically important technology business that has recently struggled financially. Within Zumtobel Group, Tridonic covers components, controls, software and connected lighting technology. That Components Segment had a difficult 2025/26 financial year: revenue fell 11.0% to €266.4 million, while adjusted EBIT dropped from €13.5 million to €4.6 million. The margin contracted from 4.5% to 1.7%.

That gives the appointment considerably more significance than the usual corporate language about technology leadership and growth might suggest. Pandhi is not simply being asked to manage innovation. He needs to help turn technological strength back into more convincing business and earnings.

Zumtobel is not bringing in an outsider for the job. Pandhi joined the group in 2021 and has since been responsible for Thorn Lighting's global business. According to the company, he has more than 20 years of international leadership experience in the lighting industry. Before joining Zumtobel Group, he held several international management positions at Sylvania Lighting.

Zumtobel CEO Alfred Felder highlights Pandhi's industry knowledge, international experience and customer focus. His remit at Tridonic covers intelligent lighting systems, software, connectivity and energy solutions. This places the company squarely in the part of professional lighting where the business is increasingly shifting from individual products towards connected building systems.

The appointment also comes amid a broader leadership transition at Zumtobel Group. Heiner Lang will succeed Alfred Felder as group CEO on 1 October. The former Wago chief brings experience in automation and connection technology – fields that fit well with Tridonic's business in lighting, controls and connectivity.

Within a matter of weeks, Zumtobel is therefore changing both its group leadership and the management of its technology business. That alone does not constitute a strategic shift. It does, however, underline the importance the group places on digital and connected lighting technology.

Digitalisation, software, connectivity and intelligent systems are expected to open up new opportunities for Tridonic and its customers. The crucial issue, however, will be turning those opportunities into commercial success. Tridonic has possessed technology expertise for decades; what its Components Segment has recently lacked is economic momentum.
