Humanscale strengthens leadership across DACH and Asia-Pacific

Humanscale is strengthening its international leadership – and drawing talent from some very different corners of the industry. Since September, Katrin Lauer has led sales for the US ergonomics specialist in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as Sales Director DACH. Three further executives are joining the leadership team in Asia-Pacific: Ambroise d’Hauteville as Regional Director Greater China, Hajime Hikino as Sales Director Japan and Giles Poppleton in the newly created role of Managing Director Global Accounts APAC. Taken together, their four CVs read like a short guide to the industry. There are design brands, a competitor, a lighting manufacturer and experience from the client side.
Lauer's career has included roles at HAY and Vitra. Nor are her future business contacts entirely new to her. According to Humanscale, she has already developed relationships with clients, dealers and architects and designers across the region. She will now build on those connections for Humanscale.
In Asia-Pacific, the first thing that stands out is staying power. D’Hauteville spent 24 years at Steelcase, while Hikino worked for Workplace Solutions Inc. for 25 years. That adds up to almost half a century of service, spread across two CVs.
D’Hauteville has worked in Africa, Europe and Asia. He spent nearly two decades living and working in China and other Asian markets, including Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. His previous responsibilities included leadership roles in regional sales and education across Greater China. Based in Hong Kong, he will now oversee Humanscale's business in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.
Hikino held a sales management position at Workplace Solutions before joining Italian lighting manufacturer Flos as Retail Area Manager Japan. From workplaces to lighting and now back again: at Humanscale, he is expected to put his knowledge of the Japanese workplace market to use.
Perhaps the most revealing appointment concerns a position that did not previously exist. Poppleton will be based in Singapore. His background spans corporate leadership, commercial real estate, consulting and change management.
