Anyone in Germany who said carpeting once said Vorwerk – and not by accident: the brand traces back to Carl Vorwerk, who founded the weaving mill in Wuppertal-Barmen in 1883, the lineage of which – via Vorwerk & Co. Teppichwerke and Hamelner Teppichwerke – produced today's DAS TEPPICHWERK GmbH & Co. KG, formally established in January 2025. Behind the lean rebranding lies a double movement: the legal decoupling from the Wuppertal-based Vorwerk Group, completed in summer 2020 through a management buy-out, and the consolidation of brand architecture in Hameln, where the family-run business under managing partner Tobias Arnold continues the Vorwerk product range under licence from the Vorwerk Group.
Production takes place exclusively in Hameln, and at a vertical depth that is unusual even for this industry – from weaving and tufting through dyeing, printing and coating to cutting and finishing. Around 158 employees keep this end-to-end value chain on site, supplemented by an in-house recycling facility and a growing share of regenerated yarns, including ECONYL®. For the contract segment, the Vorwerk brand presents Projection#1, launched at BAU 2025 in Munich: twelve qualities across 152 colour and pattern positions, paired with acoustic tiles, made-to-measure rugs and broadloom up to five metres wide – a portfolio aimed at hotels, offices, banks, gastronomy and the transport sector (rail, marine) alike.
Alongside this sit Passion and Fascination for residential applications, while the sister brand Nordpfeil maintains Moorea (tiles, planks) and Stay (broadloom, rugs) for hospitality. Membership in the TFI Institute for Floor Systems at RWTH Aachen and the German Home Textiles Association, the customary lab certifications, German production – the constants remain unchanged, the public face has not. Anyone encountering the name DAS TEPPICHWERK for the first time might almost overlook the programmatic intent behind it; it arrives too unassumingly, more workshop than brand strategy.
