Viasit is a German manufacturer of ergonomic office furniture from Neunkirchen (Saarland), founded in 1980 by Alfons Weber and Werner Schmeer — initially under the name Variasit, meaning "diversity in seating," in a former paper factory in Wörschweiler. In 1991 the company moved to its current production site in Neunkirchen, which was expanded to 8,700 m² in 2000. Today Viasit employs approximately 150 people from 13 nations; annual turnover exceeds 35 million euros. Viasit is a founding member of the German Design Council.
Ergonomic office chairs form the core business. Doctors and therapists have been involved in product development from the outset — including the development of the Schukra lumbar support, height- and depth-adjustable and integrated into almost every Viasit chair. The key element of the current flagship product Drumback (design Martin Ballendat): a variable air chamber in the backrest replaces the conventional lumbar support and adapts dynamically to the user's posture. Awards: German Brand Award 2017, Good Design Award, Green Product Award 2017 (all for Drumback). Certifications: EMAS (Europe's strictest environmental management system), Level 3 (FEMB sustainability standard, since 2021). The range has been successively extended to include tables, open-space furniture, hotel and leisure furnishings and educational furniture.
For workplace consultants, architects and office project managers seeking a mid-sized German office furniture manufacturer with deep ergonomic development competence, a clear sustainability profile (EMAS, Level 3), design award confirmation and a broadened programme for flexible working environments, Viasit is a substantive and well-documented address from Saarland.
