ULMA Architectural Solutions is a Spanish cooperative based in Oñati (Province of Guipúzcoa, Basque Country). The company was founded in 1990 within the ULMA Group — initially as ULMA Polymer Concrete, becoming an independent entity in 1996. The parent group traces back to 1957, when six mechanics founded a workshop serving the regional chocolate industry in Oñati. Today ULMA Architectural Solutions employs approximately 250 people; headquarters are in the Zubillaga district of Oñati. Around 80% of employees are partners in the cooperative.
The core material of all products is polymer concrete — a combination of silica and quartz aggregates bound by stable polyester resins. Polymer concrete is up to four times more resistant to compression than traditional concrete and allows for more slender profiles. The product portfolio covers four segments: drainage systems (linear channels, electrical conduits), architectural precast (windowsills, copings, baseboards), ventilated facades (Stoneo cladding system) and urban furniture (benches, lighting fixtures, planters). Project references include the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Camp Nou Barcelona access areas, São Paulo Guarulhos Airport, Museo da Imagem e do Som Rio de Janeiro and the Arese shopping centre in Milan (1,100 linear metres of drainage channels). International presence in over 20 countries, with subsidiaries in Portugal, France, Brazil, Germany, the UK and the USA.
For architects, urban planners and construction project buyers who want to source drainage and architectural precast solutions from a single material and single supplier, ULMA Architectural Solutions is one of the few providers offering all four product categories in-house — with documented references on iconic large-scale projects worldwide.
