Stern is a German family company for high-quality outdoor furniture. It was founded in 1947 by Udo Stern in Ludwigsburg — originally as a retail store for post-war household goods, which gradually expanded to include furniture. With the emergence of out-of-town retail parks in the late 1960s, the general store came to an end and the focus shifted to garden furniture. Today: headquarters in Affalterbach near Stuttgart (Maybachstraße 13–17, 71563 Affalterbach); approximately 120 employees; over 18,000 m² of storage capacity; 800 m² showroom. Corporate strategy: "outstanding since 1947" — new collections every year, collaborative design development with internationally renowned designers and streamlined logistics to approximately 1,000 trade partners across Europe.
Designers: Jürgen Sohn (since 2009), Ewald Winkelbauer (since 1995), Rainer Bachschmid (since 2017), Nadine Kümmel Design, Rabadesign and others. Materials: powder-coated aluminium, stainless steel, FSC-certified teak, String-Flex rope (synthetic fibre), solution-dyed polyacrylic outdoor upholstery (stain-repellent, UV-resistant and insect-resistant) and Dekton/ceramic table tops. Range: lounge furniture, dining sets, armchairs, sofas, tables (dining and lounge height), loungers and accessories. Collections include ALLROUND, ANNY, ARTUS VIP, AVA, BALANCE, CARDIFF, CORDA, KLEA, NOVI, LARIS, MARLA and ROBIN. Awards: iF Design Award (multiple times).
Stern is for landscape architects, hospitality furnishers and retailers the Swabian reference brand for design-oriented outdoor furniture in the upper-mid to premium segment — with almost 80 years of tradition, a stable designer network and a full range that addresses private gardens as much as hotel and restaurant terraces.
