Pilma

Pilma is a Spanish furniture and design company — founded in 1974 by Ricard López and Magda Barceló in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). The beginnings lay in a cabinet-making and carpentry workshop on Carrer de Llançà, where American-style office furniture and sliding-door wardrobes were made. Soon after followed the opening of the first Pilma store on Carrer de València — one of Barcelona's first design flagship stores — and the import concession for furniture from Scandinavia and contemporary Italy. 1992: The Organising Committee of the Barcelona Olympic Games awarded Pilma two exclusive licences to produce and market the mascot Cobi (in aluminium, bronze and resin) — Cobi became one of the most iconic symbols of Barcelona and achieved enormous commercial success. 2018: Albert González Prize of the Barcelona City Council to Ricard López for the contribution to the promotion of the city's commerce. Pilma is a family company — each family member contributes to the brand, while the core (the dream of Ricard and Magda) remains intact.

PLM Design (own brand, founded in the 1990s): furniture collection in rationalist-minimalist style, inspired by the basic principles of the Bauhaus. Material focus: teak (sustainably sourced from controlled plantations), steel, recycled wood or wood from controlled plantations. Main market: Spain (1,000+ points of sale), with significant growth in Germany, France, Switzerland and the Middle East — residential and contract. Stores: Barcelona (multiple) + Madrid (Salamanca district). External brand representation in Spain: Kartell, STUA, Foscarini, Flos, Santa & Cole, among others. Sustainability principle: furniture as heirlooms — designs that outlast fashions and are passed on across generations.
