KARE Design GmbH is a German design company for furniture, lighting and home accessories — founded in 1981 in Munich by Jürgen Reiter and Peter Schönhofen as students who wanted to furnish their own apartment and found no affordable designer furniture: "Let's build our own furniture and sell it in our shop." The first KARE store opened on 40 m² in the heart of Munich in Maxvorstadt. The founding principle: fabulous furnishing designs at an attractive price with a decisive touch of unconventional styling — never boring, always full of imagination. Reiter and Schönhofen continue to run the medium-sized company as owners and managing directors today in person. 1990 first international trade fair presence (imm Cologne), 1994 launch of the franchise system, 2005 move to headquarters Garching-Hochbrück with 30,000 m² logistics centre and 3,000 m² showroom "Redboxx". 2014 opening of the KARE Kraftwerk — award-winning flagship store concept with 10,000 m² showroom in a former Munich power station (Shops of the Year 2015, German Retail Association).
