Fogia

Fogia is a Swedish design furniture brand, founded in 1981 by Hans Rosander and Lars Fritzell initially under the name A.B.G.-Trading, then as Combiplex — with the visionary starting point of joining glass and Plexiglas. The founders developed a method of bonding Plexiglas sheets to create elegant, transparent tables and sideboards: technically pioneering products that in the early 1990s, through collaboration with designer Annika Reuterswärd, made the brand known in Scandinavia. The name Fogia derives from the Swedish verb "foga" — to join, to connect — programmatically referring to the founding impulse. In 1986 the brand was renamed Fogia Collection. After decades of market presence, in 2011 Marcus Huber took over as new owner and implemented a consistent repositioning: from a traditional furniture manufacturer to a premium design brand with international ambition and a contemporary Scandinavian design language. Fogia today produces in its own factory in Gdańsk (Poland), where all furniture is individually handcrafted; wood is selected directly in forests near the factory — oak, birch, ash and beech, knot-free and with few colour changes. Natural materials such as goose down, jute, flax and cotton define the upholstery. Showroom: Finnboda Varv, Stockholm.

Designer collaborations: Andreas Engesvik (Tiki — sofa, armchair, pouf; neo-vintage soft linearity with nozag spring base; Bollo — dining chair, lounge chair, Lyra armchair; inspired by mid-century Swedish armchairs), Note Design Studio (Rise sofa; Area side tables), TAF Studio (Niche club armchair, originally exclusive for the National Museum Stockholm), Stefan Borselius, Norm Architects, Carina Seth Andersson, Main (Bond shelving), Form Us With Love. Icons: Tiki, Bollo, Jord, Supersoft. Materials: oak, beech, birch, ash; leather, aniline leather, nubuck; new wool, linen, cotton fabrics.

For architects and interior designers seeking for residential and contract projects a Swedish premium furniture brand that in 1981 emerged from the pioneering work of glass-Plexiglas bonding, in 2011 under new ownership was reformulated as a contemporary design brand, maintains a dense Scandinavian designer portfolio with Andreas Engesvik, Note Design Studio, TAF Studio and Norm Architects, produces all furniture individually handcrafted in its own factory in Gdańsk, and has formulated icons of contemporary Nordic design with the Tiki and Bollo collections — Fogia is a good address in the segment of handcrafted contemporary Swedish premium upholstered furniture.
