Flokk
Flokk is a Norwegian company for office chairs, seating and workplace environment furniture, headquartered in Oslo, formed in 2007 through the merger of three Nordic office chair manufacturers: HÅG (Norway, production in Røros), RH (Sweden, founded 1977 by Rolf Holstensson in Bodafors/Småland — who felt uncomfortable in his own sitting position and in 1977 developed the first office chair designed to facilitate an upright posture) and RBM (Denmark). Today Flokk is a "House of Brands" with seven brands: HÅG, RH, RBM, Offecct, Giroflex, Profim and Connection. Production sites: Røros (Norway), Nässjö (Sweden), Poland and the UK. The company is the only international provider specialising exclusively in the manufacture of individual and environmental seating. Sustainability has been a core concern for decades: targeted 75% renewable energy by 2025, 100% by 2030; target: 85% waste to material recycling by 2025; use of recycled plastics and metals.
Signature product: HÅG Capisco — designed in 1984 by Peter Opsvik (1939–2024, died 30 September 2024), inspired by the dynamic posture of horse riders. Core design maxim: "The best posture is always the next one." Opsvik developed the Capisco as a response to the increasingly static sitting positions of the post-industrial society of the 1980s; the collaboration between Opsvik and HÅG had already begun in 1974; in 1983 HÅG founded Studio HÅG. Today: the only office chair in the world with the Swan Nordic Eco-Label; manufactured from 50% recycled materials; significantly lower carbon footprint than 40 years ago. The HÅG Capisco appears in Star Trek and The Expanse as well as the Hugo Boss Futuristic Fashion Show. Further key products: HÅG SoFi, HÅG Tion (design Frost Produkt/Aleksander Borgenhov; mesh version 2024), HÅG Anova; RH Mereo; RBM Noor (Form Us With Love/Grønlund Design/StokkeAustad). Designer collaborations: Peter Opsvik, Big-Game, Anderssen & Voll, Hunting & Narud, Frost Produkt, Lucidi Pevere (Connection), Mario Ferrarini (Offecct), Christophe Pillet (Profim), Paolo Fancelli (Giroflex).
For architects and workplace designers seeking for office, educational and public space design projects a Nordic "House of Brands" that since 2007 unites the Scandinavian office chair tradition of HÅG, RH and RBM under one roof, is responsible with the HÅG Capisco (1984, Peter Opsvik) for one of the most iconic and design-historically impactful ergonomic seating pieces in design history, documents certified sustainability leadership in the segment with the Swan Nordic Eco-Label and 50% recycled material share, and with production sites in Norway, Sweden, Poland and the UK serves global contract projects — Flokk is a good address in the segment of the Scandinavian ergonomic office chair specialist.
