BertO

BertO is an Italian upholstered furniture manufacturer, founded in 1974 in Meda (Monza Brianza) by brothers Carlo and Fioravante Berto as a craft subcontracting workshop — in the city considered the world capital of design furniture (9 Compasso d'Oro awards for Meda companies; Cesare Cassina, Antonio Citterio and many other design legends worked there). The second generation, represented by CEO Filippo Berto, took over the company and introduced a consistent digital transformation from the late 1990s: BertO launched the first corporate blog in the Italian furniture industry (BertoStory) and was invited by Google to Brussels as one of Europe's most innovative SMEs for digital excellence. The company has grown fivefold since 2000. Filippo Berto published the book "Made in Meda — Il futuro del design ha già mille anni" as a cultural manifesto for the design region. Showrooms: Meda, Rome, Turin, Lugano, Padua, Brescia. Art direction and product design: Castello Lagravinese Studio (Alessandro Castello and Mari Lagravinese) in collaboration with BertO's R&D team. Awards: Archiproducts Design Award 2025 (Furniture, David sofa), ADI Design Index 2025 (IGGY sofa).

Core competence: fully customisable sofas, armchairs, beds and accessories — produced directly in Meda with local master craftsmen (upholsterers). Fully integrated supply chain: design, production, direct sales. Average production time: 4–6 weeks. Key products: David (modern, dynamic sofa with elevated structure), IGGY, Dee Dee (corner system), East Side (bed), Jim (desk). Materials: natural fabrics, leather, natural wood. E-commerce with online configurator gives global customers the same design experience as a physical showroom visit.

For architects and interior designers, BertO is the modern representative of the Made-in-Meda craft heritage — digitally fluent, fully configurable and with a proven award track record from the heart of Italy's most important design district.
