Artemide
Artemide was founded in Milan in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza. The first lamp — Alfa, designed by Sergio Mazza — dates from 1959. The main factory has been in Pregnana Milanese (Milan) since 1972, the company's registered address remaining Corso Monforte 19, 20122 Milan. Ernesto Gismondi (1931–2020), a trained aeronautical engineer and co-founder of the Memphis movement, received the Compasso d'Oro lifetime achievement award in 1994/1995. The current President and CEO is his widow Carlotta de Bevilacqua. Artemide today operates five factories in Italy, France, Hungary and the USA, with two own glassworks and two R&D centres. The group employs over 750 people, including 60 in R&D. Distribution spans 98–107 countries; 55–60 owned showrooms worldwide.

In 1991 Artemide acquired VeArt, a historic Venetian glassworks; mouth-blown glass collections followed (Milano-Torino, Milano-Venezia, Venexiana). In 2014 the Danese Milano brand was integrated into the Artemide programme. Current architecture and design collaborations: Foster+Partners (Ixa), BIG/Bjarke Ingels (Gople, Alphabet of Light, La Linea), Herzog & De Meuron (Pipe), Neri&Hu and Atelier OÏ.
