Zalaba Design is a Zurich-based design studio and furniture brand, founded and led by Ginger Zalaba. Zalaba holds a Master's degree in Exhibition Design from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and also studied Interior Design at IED Milan. The first furniture collection — KOLB — was presented at Salone del Mobile in Milan in 2015: a homage to the Bauhaus legacy of her grandfather Otto Kolb, an influential German designer whose work was produced through the Otto Kolb Design AG and later through Walter Knoll, with pieces represented in museums and at major auction houses (Sotheby's, Quittenbaum). Zalaba Design also reopened Kolb's longstanding metal workshop, located around 20 minutes from Zurich. Production self-understanding: "Swiss-Italian made" — designed in Switzerland, manufactured in Italy.
The range covers chairs, tables, barstools and restaurant furniture as well as bespoke single pieces in metal, wood, marble, glass, leather and premium textiles. Zalaba Design works entirely in-house: from sketch through CAD plans and renderings to the completed piece. The studio has realised over 50 interior design and hospitality projects — including the executive office of the Estée Lauder branch in Wollerau and the Longevity Villa Volt in St. Moritz.
For interior designers and contract buyers seeking a small studio built on Bauhaus aesthetics and Swiss precision standards, with a genealogically documented design heritage, in-house Swiss metalwork and full-service capability from design through manufacturing, Zalaba Design is an original and barely comparable address in the European design scene.
