Wittmann is an Austrian family company for handcrafted upholstered furniture from Etsdorf am Kamp (Lower Austria), founded in 1896 by Franz Wittmann as a saddlery. Furniture production began in the 1950s, initially in close collaboration with architect Johannes Spalt. Today Ulrike Wittmann and her husband Heinz Hofer-Wittmann lead the company in the fifth generation. Production: exclusively in Etsdorf. Around 100 employees hand-make approximately 15,000 pieces annually. Export share: 70%; presence in over 50 countries. Flagship stores: Vienna, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Seon (Switzerland). Wittmann is the only furniture manufacturer in the world authorised to produce furniture according to the original designs of Josef Hoffmann — the co-founder of the Vienna Secession and the Wiener Werkstätte.
The designer partnership list reads like half a century of international design history: Johannes Spalt, Friedrich Kiesler, Jean Nouvel, Matteo Thun, Paolo Piva, Jaime Hayon (Vuelta collection), Sebastian Herkner, Luca Nichetto (Andes sofa, Antigua cabinet, Acacia table), Monica Förster, Christophe Pillet, Arthur Arbesser. The range covers sofas, lounge chairs, beds, coffee tables and living room complements. Every piece is hand-made in-house — from metalwork and cutting to upholstery, all within the same workshops.
For interior designers and hotel architects seeking an Austrian manufacturer of luxury handcrafted upholstered furniture with five generations of family history, a Wiener Werkstätte connection, exclusive Josef Hoffmann licence and a stable network of international designer partnerships, Wittmann is the most elegant address in the premium upholstered furniture segment of the German-speaking region.
