TON

TON is a Czech furniture manufacturer based in Bystřice pod Hostýnem (Moravia). The factory was founded by Michael Thonet in 1861 — one of seven production sites in the Gebrüder Thonet empire. It is the oldest continuously operating bentwood furniture factory in the world. Following nationalisation after the Second World War, the company received its current name in 1953: TON stands for Továrna na ohýbaný nábytek — Bentwood Furniture Factory.

The manual steam-bending technique remains in use to this day. The core product is Chair No. 14 — designed in 1859, assembled from six beechwood pieces, ten screws and two nuts, and sold in over 50 million units worldwide. The current range covers classics No. 14, 18, 20 and 33 alongside contemporary collections developed with designers including kaschkasch and Arik Levy. Managing Director is Milan Dostalík. TON has no legal or family connection to the German Thonet GmbH in Frankenberg.

TON offers planners and contract buyers a direct link to one of the most influential production histories in the furniture industry — with documented material tradition, an active sustainability strategy and a range that combines restaurant classics with contemporary design in equal measure.
