SP01 is an Australian design furniture brand that manufactures exclusively in Italy. The company was founded in 2016 as the first own brand of the Australian luxury furniture importer Space Furniture. Founder and CEO Space Furniture: Christina Caredes. Co-founder and Creative Director SP01: Matt Lorrain. Starting point: a conversation between colleagues looking for a new direction in the furniture industry. First collection: launched February 2016. First design studio: Metrica (Fattorini+Rizzini+Partners, Milan) — a studio with a Compasso d'Oro award and references at Arper, Poliform, Moooi, Cassina, MDF Italia and Zanotta. Production: leading northern Italian furniture manufacturers. 100% Made in Italy.

Philosophy: "rigorous design and honest materials" — materials are deployed as their intrinsic nature dictates, not concealed or overloaded. Outdoor collection: salt-mist test of 1,500 hours (approximately double the automotive industry standard). Designers: Metrica (Thomas, Max, Anita, Clark, Smith, Yee storage system and Etoile), Tom Fereday (Jeanette, Eileen and Chee — outdoor) and Tim Rundle (Michelle, Caristo and Shu-Ying).
