Sellex

Sellex is a Spanish contract furniture manufacturer headquartered in Irún, Basque Country. The company was founded in 1977 in San Sebastián, initially focusing on the import and licensed production of Scandinavian furniture — notably the Swedish brand Innovator and as exclusive importer of Fritz Hansen, Nelo and Inno. In the mid-1980s, Sellex developed its own residential furniture collections. At the beginning of the 1990s a strategic reorientation took place: complete focus on furniture for public spaces and collective use (contract). First milestone: the VACANTE Bench (1993, design: Enric Miralles), realised for the Huesca Sports Centre — the company's first large contract project. In 2002 international breakthrough came with the AERO Bench (Lievore Altherr Molina). 2011: National Design Prize of Spain (Premio Nacional de Diseño) — awarded to companies for outstanding contributions to design. 2020: launch of an online shop.

Export share: over 75%, presence in 40+ countries; five main export markets: France, USA, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands. ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 14006 (Ecodesign). Range 100/100 (fully produced from recycled and recyclable materials). Designers: Lievore Altherr Molina, Gemma Bernal, Enric Miralles, Carlos Tíscar, Mario Ruiz and Burkhard Vogtherr. Range covers benches, lounge chairs, chairs, stools, tables, screens and shelves. References: Geneva Airport, Tachikawa Hospital Japan, Palais de Justice Nouméa and Leonardo da Vinci Museum Milan.

Sellex is for architects and public space designers the leading Spanish address for designer-originated seating for airports, hospitals, universities, courts and cultural buildings worldwide — with a documented sustainability programme, 40+ years of contract experience and a product in the permanent collection of MoMA New York.
