OMK
OMK (Olejnik Morrison Kinsman) is a British design brand for furniture and contract fitting — founded in 1965 by Rodney Kinsman RDI in London, after his graduation from the Central School of Art (together with Jurek Olejnik and Bryan Morrison, whose initials form the brand name). Immediately established as a leading brand of the High-Tech design movement and primary supplier to Terence Conran's Habitat stores in the 1960s and 70s. Kinsman's designs are regarded as icons of British design of the late 20th century. Awards: 29 international design prizes — British Design Award (1984, 1991), European Community Design Prize (1991), Millennium Product (1999). In permanent collections: Victoria & Albert Museum London, Design Museum London, Philadelphia Museum of Art. 2017: relaunched as OMK 1965 (curated selection of historic design classics, now produced in Italy).
Iconic products: T1 Chair (first product, from 1967 at Habitat, one of the most popular models), Omkstak Chair (1971, over 1 million units sold, icon of the High-Tech era, in permanent collections worldwide), Orbit Mirror (1981), Vienna Collection (tubular steel tables with glass tops, 1984), Tokyo Stool (1985, Milan Furniture Fair, originally designed for London's Groucho Club), Trestle (1978). Contract seating (public space): Transit, Trax, Sevilla, Metro, Flite — over 370 airport and transport installations worldwide (Istanbul, Madinah, Kigali, Jeddah, Eurostar departure lounge London, Gatwick, Portsmouth and others).
For architects and interior designers seeking for premium retail, boutique hotel, cultural institution and demanding international residential and contract projects a British design brand founded in 1965 by Rodney Kinsman RDI in London that as a key figure of the High-Tech design movement with the Omkstak Chair (1971, over one million units), T1 Chair, 29 international design prizes, permanent collections at V&A London, Design Museum London and Philadelphia Museum of Art and the 2017 OMK 1965 relaunch produced in Italy revives British modernist design heritage for contemporary spaces — the Omkstak Chair (1971, over one million units) demonstrated what Rodney Kinsman RDI meant: British High-Tech design that does not treat usability and iconicity as opposites.
