Muuto is a Danish design company for furniture, lighting and accessories — founded in 2006 in Copenhagen by Kristian Byrge and Peter Bonnén. The name Muuto comes from Finnish: muutos means "new perspective" — describing precisely the company's ambition to expand the Scandinavian design tradition through contemporary materials, techniques and creative thinking. Kristian Byrge had previously been involved in the founding of Noma restaurant. Both founders recognised that the Scandinavian design market of the early 2000s offered excellent classics but few contemporary innovations — and decided to establish a new generation of Nordic design language. In December 2017 the acquisition by Knoll for USD 300 million was announced (effective January 2018). Muuto is today part of the MillerKnoll group. Nordic Talent Award for design students since 2010.
