Maze

Maze (Maze Interior) is a Swedish design company for sustainable furniture and home accessories — founded in 2003 by photographer Kent Johansson in Stockholm. Trigger: a fruitless search for a small bedside table for his mini-apartment in Stockholm. With planks and nails the F-Shelf was created — Maze's first product, which became a bestseller and simultaneously established the company philosophy: clever solutions, locally produced, with conscious material choices. Guiding principle: "Slow Production" — drawing on the international Slow Food movement: produce locally, quality before quantity, minimum possible environmental impact. Maze produces only furniture that fulfils a clear purpose and solves a problem in a new, better way. 20-year warranty on all products.

Production: approx. 80–95% in Sweden (small businesses in Småland, incl. Larssons Trä in Tranemo for birch and pine, Backstigs, Steelnova), rest in Italy and the Baltics. Wood: exclusively FSC/PEFC-certified, Swedish birch and pine from Swedish forests. Leather: Elmo Sweden AB in Svenljunga — Scandinavian beef and dairy cattle. 2021: integration of Finnish lighting brand Pilke (founded 2003 by Tuula Hocksell and Leena Liedenpohja in Helsinki). Designers: Olof Kolte (Hatrack, Mitten Shelf), Malin Lundmark (Edgy, Suitcase), Gustav Rosén (Pythagoras, Step, Only Hooks), Tapio Anttila (Mixrack), Antrei Hartikainen, Álvaro Díaz Hernández, Louise (20-year collaboration). Bestseller: Pythagoras shelf (triangular bracket).

For architects and interior designers seeking for boutique hotel, office, foodservice and demanding residential and contract projects a Swedish design company founded in Stockholm in 2003 by Kent Johansson that with the Slow Production guiding principle (local, sustainable, FSC/PEFC wood, Scandinavian leather from Elmo Sweden), 80–95% production in Swedish craft businesses of Småland, a 20-year product warranty, the Pythagoras shelf as an icon piece and the integrated Finnish lighting brand Pilke — Maze was born in 2003 from the same origins as the F-Shelf: from an unmet need, a plank of wood and the Slow Production principle that since then carries every product from Swedish forests and Småland workshops.
