Ligne Roset
Ligne Roset is a French family company for contemporary design furniture — founded in 1860 by Antoine Roset in Oussiat (Département Ain, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes); in 1892 he expanded the company with a wood processing factory in Montagnieu. The first phase was devoted to producing walking sticks, umbrella handles and chair frames. After the death of Antoine and the tragic accidental death of his son Emile (1946), grandson Jean Roset (1920–1999) shifted the company after the Second World War from 1950 to contract furniture for schools, universities, hospitals and retirement homes. In 1973 the Ligne Roset brand was officially registered, production was relocated to Briord (Ain) — where it is still concentrated today — and the first Ligne Roset store was opened; in the same year Michel Ducaroy presented the Togo armchair. Today the fifth generation of the family runs the company; Bernard Lipp, great-great-grandson of the founder, heads the production facilities. Turnover approximately 86 million euros (2019), export share approximately 70%; over 750 retailers worldwide; over 200 brand-exclusive stores.
Icons: Togo (Michel Ducaroy, 1973; over 1 million pieces sold in 72 countries; since 2020 as a full collection with recycled, non-toxic polyurethane foam), Pumpkin (Pierre Paulin, 1971 for the private apartments of the Élysée Palace, in serial production since 2008), Plumy (Annie Hiéronimus, 1980), Ploum (Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Red Dot 2011). Designer collaborations: Michel Ducaroy, Pierre Paulin, Didier Gomez, Pascal Mourgue, Peter Maly, Inga Sempé, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec (Facett, Ploum), LucidiPevere, Pierre Charpin, Philippe Nigro, Brad Ascalon; over 70 designers in total from around the world. Sustainability: FCBA-certified wood, UV acrylic varnishes (free of biocides, heavy metals, halogenated compounds), 56% of factory waste recycled, wood shavings used as heating fuel.
