LaCimbali

LaCimbali is an Italian manufacturer of professional espresso coffee machines — founded in 1912 by Giuseppe Cimbali, who opened a copper processing workshop in Milan. From this craft operation, within decades one of the world's leading brands for professional espresso equipment grew. In 1930 the first LaCimbali coffee machine came to market: La Rapida — a column machine with a vertically positioned boiler, heated by coal or wood. In 1955 the introduction of Granluce with a hydraulic group (patented) enabled for the first time the complete automation of the coffee extraction process and opened export to new markets. In 1962 Pitagora — designed by the architects Castiglioni (Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni) — won the Compasso d'Oro: to this day the only coffee machine to have received this distinction; the stainless steel body, colour application and silk-screen printing initiated the serial production of LaCimbali machines. Headquarters: Binasco (Metropolitan City of Milan) — production facility and MUMAC Museum. Further production sites: Ghisalba (Bergamo) and Cappella Cantone (Cremona).

Production: 200 machines daily; 700 distributors; over 100 countries. MUMAC (Museum of the Coffee Machine, opened 2012 on the company's centenary, Binasco): 1,800 m², over 200 machines chronologically in six sections; plus MUMAC Academy (SCA-certified, training and sensory evaluation courses). Awards: Compasso d'Oro 1962 (Pitagora, Castiglioni brothers), Good Design Award 2020 (S60, Cometti+V12 Design), Red Dot Award 2016 (S30). Further designer collaborations: Rodolfo Bonetto, Shin Matsunaga (first electronic machine ET), Cometti+V12 Design. Product programme: traditional espresso machines (various group configurations, M-series), super-automatics (S-series — S15, S20, S30, S60), grinders, HoReCa accessories.

For architects, interior designers and hospitality project developers seeking for hotel lobbies, restaurants, cafés and public spaces an Italian manufacturer of professional espresso coffee machines founded in Milan in 1912 and part of Gruppo Cimbali S.p.A. that with the only coffee machine bearing a Compasso d'Oro distinction (Pitagora 1962, Castiglioni), the MUMAC Museum as a cultural site of professional espresso machine history (1,800 m², Binasco), a Good Design Award 2020 for the S60 and over 100 years of design partnerships with Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Rodolfo Bonetto and Cometti+V12 Design elevates the aesthetic dimension of the professional appliance to design icon level.
