Hans Hansen
Hans Hansen is a furniture brand handcrafted in Germany for tables, beds and shelving in Scandinavian and Bauhaus tradition, founded in the 1970s by designer Hans Hansen — grandson of Danish designer Fritz Hansen, founder of the eponymous design house that wrote the history of Scandinavian design. Hans Hansen's daughter Gesa Hansen graduated from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, furthered her education at NZU (Nagoya University of Arts, Japan) and began her career in Paris at Jean Nouvel's studio. In 2009 she founded the brand The Hansen Family — as a tribute to the family legacy, recognised with numerous awards from the outset. As Artistic Director, Gesa Hansen continues to work for her father's company Hans Hansen. All Hans Hansen furniture is handcrafted in Germany using high-quality materials, in the tradition of Bauhaus and Scandinavian design. Designer collaboration: Studio Dott (Concept collection).
Signature product: Pure table (Hans Hansen) — square-section tubular steel profile; the legs run flush with the tabletop forming a decorative as well as functional edge; various material combinations: brushed steel and solid wood, glass, black granite, waterproof HPL (in colours on request), solid wood for the top; various rectangular formats. Pure bed — formal language analogous to the table, headboard as extension of the table leg structure. Library HPL shelving unit (RedDot Design Award) — essential lines and extraordinary lightness, modular (base module: cube approx. 33 cm sides), usable on either side as a room divider, HPL material (also suitable for damp environments and outdoors), base in steel foot or invisible height-adjustable foot version. Concept table and bench (Studio Dott) — square-section tubular steel.
For architects and interior designers seeking for residential and contract projects a furniture brand handcrafted in Germany that from the direct family tradition of Fritz Hansen was developed by Hans Hansen with a Bauhaus and Scandinavian formal vocabulary, formulates a consistent proportion-based tubular steel table signature with the Pure table, presents a modular-flexible outdoor-compatible shelving system with the Library HPL shelving unit (RedDot Design Award), and ensures the connection between family history and contemporary design aspiration with Gesa Hansen as Artistic Director — Hans Hansen connects three generations of Danish design history with German craftsmanship: Fritz Hansen as origin, Hans Hansen as continuation, Gesa Hansen (Bauhaus Weimar, Jean Nouvel) as Artistic Director — Pure table, Pure bed and Library shelving as a formal unity.
