EMKO
EMKO is a Lithuanian furniture design and home accessories company, founded in 2009 by Erika Markovska-Mikulskienė with the aim of promoting her country's deep-rooted craft tradition and translating it into contemporary furniture. The company positions itself culturally at the intersection of three spheres of influence: the Nordic Scandinavian, the Western European and the Eastern European Russian design tradition. This balance of different cultural influences is one of the defining characteristics of the EMKO aesthetic. EMKO collaborates with talented designers from around the world and produces a small, carefully curated range of award-winning furniture pieces whose simple beauty is intended to generate optimism and well-being in residential and working spaces. A decisive contribution to the brand's development was made by the early collaboration with designer Inesa Malafej, who as a student developed the concept of the "My Writing Desk" together with the founder — the first and most defining product of the brand. EMKO products are today distributed in Europe, Asia and the USA.
Product range: sofas and armchairs (incl. Naïve — sofa collection in fabric), chairs, benches, stools, tables, desks (My Writing Desk — workstation in birch, ash or black ash plywood with one or two drawers; MDF Pill — round wall cabinet that transforms into a fully functional worktable, bar cabinet or vanity unit), bookcases, shoe racks, luminaires (pendant, floor and wall lamps; incl. Macaron, design Silvia Ceñal — inspired by meringues), rugs (Chaos — handcrafted from yarn offcuts; Over — patchwork rug evoking the Arab carpet tradition), mirrors (Dew — droplet-shaped, various sizes and colours), candles and home decoration. Materials: wood, metal, glass, fabric.
For architects and interior designers seeking for residential and workspace projects a Lithuanian design brand that since 2009 has developed from the Baltic craft tradition a cultivated, small range of award-winning furniture, formulates the balance between Scandinavian sobriety and Eastern texture as a distinctive design language, and practises functional adaptability as a formal leitmotif with the Pill desk and the Naïve sofa — EMKO is a reliable Lithuanian address in the segment of curated contemporary European residential design.
