Edra is a Tuscan design furniture company, founded in 1987 in Perignano (Province of Pisa, Tuscany) by siblings Valerio and Monica Mazzei — second generation of an entrepreneurial family with a long tradition in the upholstered furniture industry. The brand name is derived from the Greek term ἕδρα (exedra), denoting a space for conversation and social exchange, referencing the philosophical significance of sitting as a place for thinking and debating. From the outset Edra was consistently oriented towards developing timeless, trend-independent products of the highest artisanal quality and technological originality. The first art director was Massimo Morozzi (member of Archizoom, art director 1987–2014); Francesco Binfaré — previously the historic director of the Cassina Research Centre — has been the brand's most defining designer since 1992. Edra products are held in the collections of MoMA New York, Centre Pompidou Paris, Musée des Arts Décoratifs Paris, Triennale Design Museum Milan, Vitra Design Museum and Die Neue Sammlung Munich. Edra was official partner of Casa Italia at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Pyeongchang 2018, the Alpine Skiing World Championships Cortina d'Ampezzo 2022, and at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.

Production: exclusively in Perignano, Tuscany; combination of artisanal techniques and high-tech manufacturing (incl. patented Gellyfoam® polyurethane, Smart Cushion with special joints and mechanisms for free backrest reconfiguration).
