Dyson
Dyson is a British-Singaporean technology company, founded on 8 July 1991 by James Dyson (born 1947 in Norfolk, England) in Malmesbury (Wiltshire, England). The company's history begins with Dyson's frustration with his Hoover Junior vacuum cleaner, whose suction steadily diminished as its paper bag became clogged. The observation that industrial cyclone separators in sawmills could separate dust without clogging gave Dyson the idea of applying this principle to a household vacuum cleaner. After more than five years and over 5,000 prototypes — financed by the licensing of the G-Force model to a Japanese company (1990), which sold it at $2,000 per unit — Dyson used the licence income in 1993 to establish his own production facility and research department in Malmesbury and bring the Dyson DC01 to market. Within 18 months the DC01 became the best-selling vacuum cleaner in the United Kingdom. In 2019 Dyson relocated its group headquarters from Malmesbury to Singapore in order to be closer to its production and supply-chain networks and Asian customer base; the historic St James Power Station in Singapore was opened as the global group headquarters in 2022. Dyson is today present in 84 markets and employs over 14,000 people worldwide (as of 2022).
Product portfolio on Archiproducts (selection contract/professional): cordless vacuum cleaners (cyclone technology, bagless), air purifiers and humidifiers, bladeless fans and heaters (Air Multiplier, 2009), hand dryers (Airblade, 2006 — HEPA-filtered air jet at speeds up to 700 km/h, dries hands in 10 seconds), hair dryers, hair stylers and straighteners (Supersonic, Airwrap). Core competences: high-speed digital motors, cyclone and particle separation technology, solid-state battery development, materials science, indoor air quality. Education and promotion initiative: James Dyson Foundation (active in 18 countries, supporting young engineers and scientists; James Dyson Award — international student competition for engineering solutions); Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London (2015); Dyson Centre for Engineering Design at Cambridge University (2016). James Dyson: CBE (1996), Knight Bachelor (2007), Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
For architects, hotel and commercial planners seeking for contract and hospitality projects a British-Singaporean technology provider that since 1993 has written one of the best-known innovation narratives in British industry with its bagless cyclone technology, formulates a robust value contribution for public and commercial wet areas with the Airblade hand dryer, and with air purifiers, bladeless fans and professional hair care devices provides a broad spectrum of technologically leading room comfort products for the contract segment — Dyson is the most reliable Malmesbury-Singapore address in the segment of technology-driven premium household and contract appliances.
