COCOON

COCOON is a Dutch luxury bathroom brand, founded in 2013 by Seb Ackerstaff and Jessie Verdonschot. Headquarters: Keizersgracht 241, Amsterdam. The company positions itself as a provider of timeless, high-quality bathroom products for a discerning clientele that values design, sustainability and craft workmanship as equally weighted criteria. The production structure is deliberately geographically differentiated: taps and showers are manufactured from marine-grade stainless steel (Marine Grade 316) by craftsmen at Lago Maggiore in northern Italy — in workshops whose history traces back to the construction of Milan Cathedral; washbasins in marble and natural stone are produced in the same northern Italian region using state-of-the-art CNC technology; Solid Surface collections and made-to-measure basins are produced in the company's own workshop in the Netherlands; bathroom furniture is manufactured by Warendorf Kitchen as a production partner.

Designers: John Pawson CBE (British minimalist architect — complete bathroom collection including taps, showers, baths, washbasins, furniture), Studio Piet Boon (eponymous Collection: taps, showers, baths, washbasins, bathroom furniture — in three finishes: Gunmetal Black matt, Raw Copper matt, Brushed Stainless Steel matt), Tim Derhaag (Dutch designer, known for long-standing Flos collaboration — MAISON collection: essentiality and universality). Awards: Archiproducts Design Award 2016 (Piet Boon tap), Red Dot Design Award 2017 (Piet Boon basin mixer). Showrooms: Amsterdam, New York, Beverly Hills (205 S. Robertson Blvd., 900 sq ft), Miami.

For architects and hospitality designers planning bathroom projects with a clear material commitment — stainless steel, marble, natural stone, solid surface — and a design environment of the highest order, COCOON is the most consistent Dutch answer to the question of what a luxury bathroom in the 21st century can be: without ornament, with substance.
