Binome

Binome is a French design duo and studio, consisting of Ingrid Michel and Frédéric Pain, with their atelier in the heart of Burgundy. Both studied together at the École Boulle in Paris, specialising in wood sculpture — a prestigious institution for applied arts and craftsmanship. From their shared background grew collaborations in film and contemporary art, before they began developing their own furniture objects and sculptures. The name Binome refers to their duality as a creative team. The studio is deliberately located outside the Parisian design scene — in the rural quiet of Burgundy, which shapes their nature-driven inspiration. All pieces are entirely handcrafted in their own workshop, in limited editions. The studio has specialised in collectible pieces for international collectors and demanding commissioners.

Design philosophy: treating the boundary between art and design as porous; sculpture as a design principle; organic, nature-inspired curves combined with taut lines and unexpected material pairings. Signature combination: resin (smooth, translucent, light) with solid raw oak or marble. Key products: Mégalithe (first piece of the //OBJET// collection), Iceberg (coffee table and stools in resin and black marble), Tripode (desk, concrete lacquer surface), Fluide (wall-mounted and hanging luminaire in translucent materials), Mandarine globe light, shelf series (including Québec). Scale: from small accessories to monumental one-off pieces.

For interior designers, collectors and commissioners interested in design collection pieces beyond serial production, Binome is the French atelier that combines sculpture and furniture with an unmistakable hand — a rarity among contemporary European design studios.
