Billiani
Billiani is an Italian chair manufacturer, founded in 1911 by Luigi Billiani in Manzano (Province of Udine, Friuli-Venezia Giulia) — in the historic core of the so-called Chair Triangle (Triangle della Sedia), one of the world's densest production clusters for wooden chairs. During the post-war economic boom the company expanded; from the 1980s it began establishing itself on the international contract scene. From the late 1990s the third generation (Luigi Billiani grandson) together with his wife Veronik Romanutti initiated a comprehensive reorientation towards design quality and international designer collaborations. Since February 2019 architect and designer Cristina Celestino has held the role of Art Director, defining the brand's visual and conceptual identity. All production: 100% within the Chair Triangle (Manzano and surroundings), in specialised local craft workshops. Presence: 90+ countries, 50+ product families, 200+ configurable products. Average production time: approx. 4 weeks. Institutional collections: MoMA New York and the Triennale di Milano have acquired individual Billiani products.
Designer portfolio: Emilio Nanni (Fratina — Red Dot Award; Croissant; Doll; Spy; Drum), Werther Toffoloni (Café; Gradisca — reinterpretation of Friulian chair tradition), Marco Ferreri (technological innovations), Harri Koskinen, Michael Geldmacher (Layer), Cristina Celestino (Frisée; Corolla; rebranding). Materials: ash, beech, oak (from sustainably managed forests); upholstery optional. Products: chairs, barstools, tables, benches, outdoor.
For architects and contract planners in hospitality, food service and public spaces, Billiani is the leading Italian premium brand for wooden chairs from the Chair Triangle — with over 110 years of woodcraft, one of the strongest designer networks in the sector and the only art direction position in the industry held by a renowned architect.
