altreforme

altreforme was founded in 2008 by Valentina Fontana Castiglioni in Calolziocorte (LC), Viale Alcide De Gasperi 16, as a diversification project of the Fontana Group. The Fontana Group has been, since 1956 by its own account, the world leader in aluminium body manufacturing for luxury automobiles — including Ferrari and Rolls Royce. The expertise accumulated over more than 65 years of automotive production — forming, surface finishing, material precision — is transferred directly to design furniture at altreforme, yielding shapes and finishes previously unachievable in the furniture sector. The material monopoly is aluminium: lightweight, recyclable and technologically deeply understood through the automotive industry.

Design partners include Aziz Sariyer, Marco Piva, Garilab, Elena Cutolo, Antonio Aricò, Serena Confalonieri, Marcantonio, Alessandro Zambelli, Zanellato/Bortotto, Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas, as well as fashion brands Moschino and Yazbukey. The bespoke project division altreforme sartoria serves architects and contract clients for one-off pieces and short-run projects. Awards include the I.dot, the Elle Decor Design Award, and the Archiproducts Design Award 2022 in the Sustainability category (Otto room divider, Fuksas, made from aluminium sheets no longer viable for automotive bodywork — upcycling). The Mata & Grifo cabinet (Aricò/Salmistraro) was listed as a finalist at the Interior Design Best of Year Award in New York in 2019.

For architects and interior designers drawn to sculptural, technologically advanced aluminium furniture with haute-couture ambition and a strong roster of design collaborators, altreforme occupies a singular market position.
