Alankaram

Alankaram — Sanskrit for "ornamentation" or "decoration" — was founded in 2015 by architect and urban designer Anupriya Sahu and Dhwanit Parmar in India. The company started in a 700 m² workshop with a small team of skilled artisans and today operates from a facility of over 18,580 m². With more than 350 artisans, over 800 unique designs and approximately 5,000 SKUs, Alankaram positions itself as one of India's largest manufacturers of bespoke solid wood furniture. Showrooms are located in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

The design philosophy follows a triad of aesthetics, utility and strength. All furniture is handcrafted and produced in single batches — fully customisable in wood type, joinery, finish and upholstery. Primary materials are Indian CP teak, steam beech and white ash; oak and walnut are used for special orders. All woods are treated and seasoned. Water-based, VOC-free lacquers and recycled reclaimed wood are employed as sustainability measures. The range covers sofas, armchairs, dining tables (up to 24-seater configurations), beds, desks, office chairs, wardrobes and outdoor as well as hospitality furniture. A technological feature is the integration of wireless charging, Bluetooth speakers and USB ports in selected pieces (e.g. the Lovit study table).

For interior designers and hospitality planners, Alankaram is relevant when bespoke, timeless solid wood furniture is required — with Indian craft identity, deep customisation capability and a traceable sustainability approach.
