Akula Living

Akula Living was founded in 2009 by Tim Appleton in Wetherby, Yorkshire (England), drawing on a family textile heritage spanning over a century across three generations. Appleton recognised early that the existing market for commercial outdoor furniture was inadequate in quality and design for the demands of the global hospitality and cruise industries. The company manufactures in its own factory in Shenzhen and operates international offices in Hong Kong, Dubai and the USA. For the financial year ending 30 September 2023, Akula Living reported revenues of £21.1 million; approximately 95% of sales are attributed to export markets.

The product programme covers marine-grade chairs, armchairs, sofas, tables, loungers and bespoke solutions — engineered for continuous use in salt-laden sea air, extreme temperatures and intensive hotel-grade wear. Reference clients include Four Seasons, Accor, Marriott, IHG, Hilton, Holland America and Royal Caribbean. In 2023, Akula Living was awarded the King's Award for Enterprise: International Trade — personally approved by King Charles III — and received growth capital from BGF. The company is an active exhibitor at HD Expo and BDNY.

For hospitality and cruise industry planners, Akula Living is relevant when marine-grade, weather-resistant outdoor furniture is required — with competitive pricing, an industry-leading warranty and a proven track record in international large-scale projects.
