ACTIU

Actiu — full company name: ACTIU Berbegal y Formas S.A. — traces its origins to a small furniture workshop founded by Vicente Berbegal in La Foia de Castalla, Alicante, in 1968. In 1982 the company was renamed Creaciones Berbegal and specialised in home furniture; in 1995 it was the first in Spain to produce personal computer furniture. The Actiu brand was created in 2000, marking the start of an international expansion phase. The defining moment in the company's history was the opening of the Actiu Technology Park in Castalla in 2008, designed by architect José María Tomás Llavador: a sustainable industrial complex whose A7 production building features 700 solar panels — the park reportedly generates more electricity than it consumes — and became the first Spanish industrial facility to achieve LEED Platinum certification. In 2017, the company won Spain's National Design Award in the Business category; founder Vicente Berbegal was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the European Business Awards (EBA). Actiu is present in over 90 countries across five continents.

The range covers office chairs, operational workstation systems, conference tables and chairs, lounge seating and bar stools for office, hospitality and public environments — all manufactured in Spain. Notable product lines include the TNK Flex and Fluit chairs and the Talent table range. Designer collaborations include Alegre Design, Archirivolto Design and ITEMdesignworks. Sustainability initiatives include the Second Act concept (repurposing upholstery remnants into accessories) and the Fluit chair made from recycled fruit boxes. The Gaia smart platform monitors spatial wellbeing. Showrooms are located in London, Dubai, Paris and elsewhere.

For planners and contract procurement teams, Actiu is relevant when a European office and contract manufacturer is sought with LEED-certified production, a broad product range, an international reference list and a strong sustainability profile.
