Yomei

Yomei is a German furniture manufacture, founded in July 2006 by André Schelbach in Detmold (East Westphalia). The name is derived from the Japanese term for "excellent" and reflects the founder's formative period in Japan. Schelbach comes from a design family: his father Siegfried Schelbach founded the influential design studio s-designteam in the late 1960s, one of the first German design agencies to specialise in solid wood furniture. From this background, André Schelbach developed a distinctive formal language: a concept of minimalism that extends beyond the visual and is consistently applied above all to the technical refinement of demanding mechanisms and surface finishes.

Yomei manufactures in-house in Detmold — in a modern, glazed manufacture with an integrated showroom. Every piece is handcrafted by a small, highly trained team and carries an individual serial number. Power supply: 100% renewable energy. Materials: solid wood, stainless steel, leather. The best-known product: the Magic Desk (Red Dot Design Award 2008) — a writing desk that, when closed, reads as an elegant console and reveals its full workstation character only when opened. Industry comparison: "the Swiss watchmaker of furniture manufacturers." Invisible cable management and concealed multiple power sockets are typical construction details. Most recent collaboration: the Lumina sideboard with integrated Leica Cine 1 laser TV.

For interior architects and discerning private clients seeking a German design manufacture with an uncompromising quality standard, in-house production, uniquely refined mechanical ingenuity, a fully renewable energy profile and a range that understands aesthetics and functionality as an inseparable whole, Yomei is one of the most uncompromising and original addresses in the German premium segment.
