Sancal is a Spanish furniture company. It was founded in 1973 in Yecla, Murcia, by Santiago Castaño Carpena as a small upholstery workshop — during the years of Spain's transition to democracy. The decisive turning point came in 1992 with the cultural project for the Barcelona Olympics, for which Sancal collaborated with Juli Capella, JJ Belda and Miguel Milá. At the beginning of this century, the second generation — Esther and Elena Castaño-López — took over and established the multidisciplinary Estudio Sancal with graphic designers, industrial designers, interior designers and upholsterers under shared creative direction. The company remains entirely family-owned.
