ROYAL STRANGER is a Portuguese furniture brand. It was founded in 2017 by architect Sofia Santos in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto. Early in her career, Santos worked with architects Carlos Castanheira and Álvaro Siza Vieira. She later co-founded an architecture and interior design studio with her partner Rui Moreira Santos. ROYAL STRANGER emerged as an extension of this creative practice into the field of furniture design. The label is registered as a trademark under Rufia, Lda.
All products are handmade in Portugal and produced to order. Materials include gold leaf, solid wood, brass, lacquer, velvet, leather and upholstery textiles. The range covers armchairs (including Embrace and Charles), side tables (Queen Heart), stools, dressing tables (Grace), bar stools and lighting. Contract and hospitality customisation is available. ROYAL STRANGER presents annually at Milan Design Week in the Brera District. The name is programmatic: "Royal" stands for noble materials; "Stranger" for unexpected, sensory design decisions.
ROYAL STRANGER is an address for interior designers and hotel projects seeking handcrafted individual pieces and small series from Portugal with a pronounced aesthetic identity — positioned in a price segment between collectible furniture and boutique contract object.
