Desalto

Desalto is a northern Italian furniture company for tables, chairs, sofas, shelving and outdoor furniture, founded in 1990 by the four Orsenigo brothers in the Brianza (Lombardy) — a region with a particularly dense tradition in craft and furniture production. The starting point was a family business specialised exclusively in metalworking; the Orsenigo brothers transformed this know-how into a fully design-oriented furniture company. Metal is the connecting element in all Desalto designs — in laser cutting, welding, galvanic treatment, lacquering and artisanal finishing. The complete production chain is internally organised: from prototype development through engineering, laser cutting, welding, lacquering and material selection to packaging. Nothing is left to chance. In 2011 a photovoltaic installation with 1,730 solar panels was commissioned, covering the company's full energy requirements. The galvanic plant has an exemplary water recovery cycle.

Awards: Compasso d'Oro ADI (Table 25, Bruno Fattorini + Robin Rizzini, 2014), Red Dot Design Award, Wallpaper Design Award, Best of the Best Interior Innovation Award Cologne. Outstanding reference: the Entronauta chair by Riccardo Blumer is part of the permanent collection of MoMA New York. Designer portfolio (selection): Riccardo Blumer (Entronauta), Bruno Fattorini + Robin Rizzini/Studio Metrica (Table 25), Caronni + Bonanomi (Helsinki, Softer Than Steel, Sail TV port), Marc Krusin (Clay table in lava stone), Tokujin Yoshioka (Element table), Piero Lissoni (Fan outdoor table), Claudio Dondoli + Marco Pocci/Archirivolto (Sand chair, Koki, Ply), Arik Levy (Endless stool), Hannes Wettstein, Mario Ferrarini, Marco Acerbis (Skin table), Nendo. Range: dining tables, chairs, stools, sofas, shelving, TV systems, coffee tables, side tables, consoles, office chairs, outdoor collection.

For architects and interior designers seeking tables and chairs for residential, restaurant and office projects that combine architectural formal precision with Brianza craftsmanship — backed by fully internally controlled metal production and a designer portfolio ranging from Tokujin Yoshioka to Piero Lissoni that invites comparison with anyone — Desalto is the most precise Brianzola address: with a chair in the MoMA and a Compasso d'Oro on the shelf.
