ClassiCon
ClassiCon is a German furniture company headquartered in Munich, founded in 1990 by Stephan Fischer von Poturzyn — emerging from the Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk (Munich/Bremen, 1898–1991), a Jugendstil-aligned association of small craft workshops that opposed mass production. The furniture and lighting licences of classic modernist designers from the Vereinigte Werkstätten heritage formed the first foundation of the collection. Since 2000 ClassiCon has been owned by the Holy family; since mid-2024 Oliver Holy and CEO Timotheus Günak have jointly led the company. Showroom, offices and warehouse have been located since 2003 in a building by architect Joachim Jürke in Munich — reduced aesthetics, materials such as glass, concrete and wood, deliberately without air conditioning as an expression of the company's guiding principle: to focus on the essential.
Eileen Gray Collection: ClassiCon is the worldwide licensee of the Eileen Gray Collection via Aram Designs Ltd, London (Gray transferred marketing rights to Zeev Aram in 1973). Pieces: Roquebrune Chair, Bibendum Armchair, Adjustable Table E 1027 (part of the permanent collection of MoMA, New York), rugs. Further classics: Eckart Muthesius (Satish Bar Stool, Banu Stool — for the Maharajah of Indore, 1930s), Otto Blümel (Nymphenburg coat stand 1908).
