Baleri Italia was founded on 8 March 1984 by Enrico Baleri and Marilisa Decimo in Milan — as the expression of a pragmatic and simultaneously utopian design idea: the pursuit of the authentic, non-obsolescent, inconspicuous, consistent, international object. The red rooster as trademark represents the brand's cheerfully optimistic character. First designer collaboration: Philippe Starck (Richard III armchair, Francesca Spanish Chair) — one of the earliest Starck productions ever, which immediately gave the brand international recognition. Cartoons screen (Alessandro Mendini): admitted to the MoMA New York permanent collection in 2001. Compasso d'Oro. In 2004 Nino Cerruti (fashion designer) acquired a majority stake. 2014: AVM Gestioni Group. 2023: Oniro Group acquires majority control. 2024: Creative Advisory Board (7 members, interdisciplinary) and 7-point Manifesto "Sustainable Freedom" — a comprehensive brand identity relaunch.
Designer lineage: Philippe Starck, Hannes Wettstein (Bill Sofa), Angelo Mangiarotti (T-Table, re-edition 2024), Alessandro Mendini, Hans Hollein, Luigi Baroli (I.S.I. Chair; Compasso d'Oro with Frida Chair for Pedrali). Re-editions 2024 (40th anniversary): Starck pieces (Juliette, Caprichair, various armchairs), Wettstein Bill Sofas, Mangiarotti T-Table (extruded aluminium profiles, Carrara or Marquina marble tops, 12 mm crystal). New pieces from ongoing designer collaborations. Current owner: Oniro Group. Distributed on Archiproducts.
For architects and interior designers who connect design history with contemporary ambition, Baleri Italia is the Italian brand that unites techno-rationalism and postmodernism in a single catalogue — and, after 40 years, is picking up momentum again with a clear relaunch.
