Casala is a Dutch manufacturer of contract furniture and soft seating for public and semi-public spaces, founded in 1917 in Lauenau (near Hannover, Lower Saxony, Germany) under the name Carle Sasse of Lauenau. The company began with the production of wooden shoe soles, soon switched to wooden furniture, and developed via metal and upholstered furniture to its current specialisation in contract seating. The Dutch entrepreneur Daan van der Winkel, who began as a representative in the Netherlands in 1972, founded "Casala Meubelen Nederland bv" in the same year, which in 2002 acquired the model rights and components of the Casala collection. Today Casala is headquartered in Culemborg (Netherlands) and maintains offices in Germany, England and France; production takes place in the Netherlands, with components supplied by long-standing qualified suppliers. Around 90% of production-relevant components are sourced within a radius of 270 km. Production area: over 30,000 m² at the main location. Guarantee: 5 years on material and construction.
Design philosophy: "Design linked to Functionality" — usability and design as equally weighted requirements already in the first drafting phase. Stacking and linking functions, transport systems, numbering and storage solutions are not afterthoughts but integrated design elements from the outset. Application segments: congress and conference halls, offices, educational institutions (schools, universities), hospitality (hotels, restaurants), healthcare and care facilities, churches, public authorities. Selected products: Curvy (stackable plastic chair, 19 standard colours, including 4 colours in a circular variant from 100% post-consumer plastic waste; floor-linking system); Parker (conference armchair, design Kressel + Schelle, inspiration: diamond cut; high craft quality in upholstery); Bricks (modular soft seating system, design Robert Bronwasser — combines seating elements, workstations, wall systems, cabinets and room-in-room pavilions); Metro table (design Erik Munnikhof); Feniks. Circular economy: Casala can issue a raw material passport for all products; for Curvy and Feniks, Casala offers a Circular Guarantee with a guaranteed residual value at the end of the usage cycle and return for the highest possible level of reuse. Certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001; Blue Angel (environmental label for selected products); QUALITY OFFICE (quality mark for ergonomics, design and material quality). As the first office furniture manufacturer worldwide, Casala received DIN EN ISO 9001 certification for its quality assurance system in 1993.
For architects and contract planners seeking a Dutch seating programme for congress, educational, healthcare and office projects — one that brings over 100 years of furniture production experience, was the first office furniture company in the world to achieve ISO 9001 certification, offers with Curvy a fully circular plastic chair family, and has developed with Bricks a modular soft seating system that addresses office zones, meeting areas and acoustic solutions from a single programme — Casala is the most reliable Dutch address in the contract seating segment.
