Royal Ahrend is a Dutch office furniture manufacturer and workplace specialist, founded in Amsterdam in 1896 by Jacobus Ahrend — initially as a stationery shop selling drawing boards and compass sets. First office furniture followed in 1926. The company grew through mergers: in 1967, Ahrend, steelfurniture producer ODA and De Cirkel merged to form Ahrend Group BV. In 1996, for its 100th anniversary, Ahrend received the title "Koninklijk" (Royal). Today, Royal Ahrend operates as an international company with around 1,200 employees, offices in more than 19 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and a portfolio of three brands: Ahrend, Gispen and TECHO. The acquisition of Gispen made the group market leader in the Benelux. TECHO is active in Eastern Europe and the UK. Headquarters: Netherlands.

Iconic product moments: Revolt chair (Friso Kramer, 1953), Result chair (Kramer + Wim Rietveld, 1958, Signe d'Or, relaunched in 2025 with HAY), Ahrend 220 (best-selling office chair in the Netherlands). Currently: Ahrend Balance (Cradle to Cradle certified, Mixology Award 2016), Ahrend WELL Collection (Red Dot Best of the Best). World's largest office furniture contract at the time: 6,500 Mehes workplaces for HSBC headquarters Hong Kong (architect Norman Foster). Sustainability strategy: circular focus since the early 1990s — modular design for repairability, Furniture-as-a-Service (FAAS, first offering of this kind in Europe), 20,000 m² Circular Hub in Veghel. Energy consumption reduced by 90% since the 1990s.

For architects, workplace designers and public-sector clients, Ahrend is the European reference for sustainable, durable office furniture rooted in Dutch design tradition — with unique infrastructure for circular business models.
