Paustian is a Danish furniture and design house — founded in 1964 by Ole Paustian in Copenhagen, on the basis of a company his father had operated since 1937. Ole Paustian and his wife Monika Paustian built the company from a small shop in Copenhagen's Vesterbro district into an internationally respected design address. Personal friendship with legendary designers such as Alvar Aalto and Ray and Charles Eames shaped the early collection orientation; their furniture was sold in the Paustian store. In 1985, Ole Paustian invited world-renowned Danish architect Jørn Utzon to design a showroom building on the Copenhagen waterfront — the resulting Paustian building in Nordhavn (completed 1987, designed with sons Jan and Kim Utzon) today ranks among Copenhagen's most significant architectural attractions. In 2018, Paustian opened a further flagship store in the heart of Copenhagen — in a magnificent historic palazzo building that once housed Denmark's oldest bank (restored by Aarstiderne Arkitekter). Further locations: Aarhus (18th-century mansion), Østbanen (former train station).
Paustian represents both Danish and international design of the highest category: Cassina, Vitra, Fritz Hansen, Carl Hansen, Gubi, HAY, Knoll, Zanotta, Artek and many more. Own collection: Paustian Furniture Collection — designed by young and experienced Danish architects and designers, increasingly produced in own workshops near Copenhagen. Icons of the own collection: Clam Chair (Philip Arctander), Modular Sofa (Erik Rasmussen), among others. Business Division: specialised in the furnishing of public and private companies, state institutions, multinational corporations — from the first sketch to installation.
