Fiam Italia is a Marche design company for furniture and accessories in curved glass, founded in 1973 in Tavullia (Province of Pesaro e Urbino, Le Marche) by Vittorio Livi — a trained glassmaker who after attending the Liceo Artistico Mengaroni in Pesaro initially worked in glass workshops and subsequently founded several glass-processing companies (Fullet, Artiglass, Curvovetro, Cromoglass, Vellutart), before uniting them all in 1973 under the name Fiam Italia: the first company worldwide specialising in curved glass furniture. The first product was the Onda Pouf (1973), a stool bent from a single sheet of glass — a technical-conceptual pioneer achievement. In 1984 came the Ragno dining table, the first table made from a single sheet of glass. In 1987 architect Cini Boeri together with Tomu Katayanagi created the Ghost armchair from a single 12mm sheet of glass — still the brand's best-known product, exhibited in 25 international museums (incl. Denver Art Museum, Musée des Arts Décoratifs Paris, Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna Roma, Die Neue Sammlung Munich). The company is today led by Daniele Livi, son of the founder, as CEO. In 2018 DV-GLASS® was developed by Daniele and Vittorio Livi — an innovation enabling glass panels of previously impossible thicknesses.
Vittorio Livi received two Compassi d'Oro alla Carriera (ADI) — one for his own life's work and one for the Ghost armchair — as well as the honorary title Commendatore della Repubblica, an honorary doctorate in Economics (Università di Ancona) and the award "City of New York." Fiam Italia was the lead participant of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. In 1992 Vittorio Livi acquired Villa Miralfiore in Pesaro — today a museum for glass artworks in collaboration with artists including Arnaldo Pomodoro, Danny Lane and Bruno Munari. Designer collaborations (selection): Cini Boeri, Philippe Starck (Caadre mirror), Marcel Wanders (Cristaline table; Echo sideboard), Daniel Libeskind (Mirage mirror), Doriana & Massimiliano Fuksas (Rosy mirror), Ron Arad, Enzo Mari, Vico Magistretti, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Xavier Lust, Patrick Jouin, Mac Stopa (Coral Beach — fused glass top), Rodolfo Dordoni (Luxor table), Setsu & Shinobu Ito (Inori bookcase), Francesca Lanzavecchia (Shift mirror). Product range: tables, mirrors, sideboards, armchairs, bookcases, bedside tables, consoles, accessories. Permanent collection at the Triennale Design Museum Milan.
For architects and interior designers seeking for residential and hospitality projects a Marche glass furniture brand that since 1973 in Tavullia has made the bending, fusing and shaping of glass into a furniture discipline, is responsible for two of the most frequently exhibited design objects in glass history with the Ghost armchair (1987) and the Ragno table (1984), has received the highest award in Italian design history twice with 2× Compasso d'Oro alla Carriera, and maintains an international designer portfolio of the first rank with Philippe Starck, Daniel Libeskind, Marcel Wanders and Doriana Fuksas — Fiam Italia is a good address in the segment of world-class curved glass furniture.
