Acapulco Design was founded in 2015 by Benjamin Caja and is based in Munich (Am Glockenbach 9, 80469). The company specialises in the original Acapulco Chair — a lounge armchair whose origins date back to the 1950s, when Acapulco was a jet-set destination for American celebrities. Production takes place exclusively in a factory in Mexico City; all pieces are handcrafted. Benjamin Caja is personally involved in every production step on site, maintaining direct contact with factory staff and suppliers. The factory is powered to a significant extent by solar energy; a large proportion of recycled plastic is used in the cord weave. All employees receive above-average wages, with equal pay for women and men.

Beyond the classic Acapulco Chair — available in a wide range of colour and material variants — the range includes a cantilever chair and dining chair developed in collaboration with design studio HANSANDFRANZ, as well as a dining table and a low coffee table, both designed by product designer Olivia Herms, who worked for Konstantin Grcic for over ten years. The table components are manufactured entirely in Germany. The programme is completed by stools, hanging chairs and vases.

For interior designers and hospitality planners, Acapulco Design is relevant when an authentically produced, socially responsible seating piece with Mexican design heritage is required — for terraces, pool areas, lobbies or outdoor dining concepts. The company operates its own retail showroom in Munich and distributes across Europe.
